What will it take to prioritize iron health as a part of mainstream Canadian patient care?

Loving starts with the self.

February is the month of love and like Katrina Mayer says, "Loving yourself isn't vanity. It's sanity." Why not give yourself a little care and attention by getting your iron checked?

If you are suffering through low iron levels or anemia, you may not know how good you can feel by addressing the underlying issue and booking into Mainline Wellness for a safe and easy IV Infusion.

This month's Newsletter highlights a new patient who had her first IV Infusion two weeks ago. This patient already prioritizes herself and her health, keeping up with regular physical fitness and, now, she has addressed her anemia and iron deficiency condition that has plagued her most of her life. Now two weeks post iron infusion, she is already feeling so much better.

Interview with Karmen Phagura

Age: 28
Occupation: ER Nurse Lion's Gate and VGH
Fitness enthusiast who enjoys spin, weight training and hiking. Self defined go go go person!

Karmen Phagura has been suffering from low iron since she was a child. Her levels would go up and then inevitably, go back down again. Using iron supplements through high school and University, she would see a small improvement for a short time but her levels would always dip back down again. As an ER Nurse and avid fitness enthusiast, Karmen needs energy to get through her full days. Recently, her low energy was coupled with tremendous hair loss, migraines and brittle nails. Finally, in the past month, she fainted at work due to exhaustion caused by anemia.

What made you ditch iron pills and address your anemia with an IV infusion?

The iron pills my doctor prescribed were really upsetting my stomach - also, my iron levels never consistently stayed up taking the pills. I reached out to Dr. Davidson and he got me booked right away. It was great.

What was your experience like at Mainline Wellness?

Super efficient, easy to get to, comfortable the whole time. Treated so well. During the infusion I just relaxed and scrolled through my phone and chatted with a nurse I knew personally. It was nice.

Would you go back to Mainline Wellness?

One thousand percent I am going back and I am going to refer family and friends.

How much did it cost?

The majority of it was covered - I had to pay a little out of pocket.

How do you feel now, since having the infusion two weeks ago?

My migraines have stopped and I am already feeling so much better, just two weeks since the infusion. My hair is stronger and my nails feel better. I have more energy at work and for all the things I love to do.
